The Artist loves playing with positive and negative shapes within her intricately cut aluminum sculptures, so that they cast beautiful shadows. Aluminum has a beautiful sheen, tendency to not corrode, and light weight in comparison to other metals. The "brushed" aluminum paired with kiln formed glass is complimentary and stunning together.  

Carefully planned out patterns and textures are ground into the surface of the aluminum to reflect light, giving the appearance of movement. After being laser cut, each piece is then hand ground to create reflective patterns.

Many pieces are painted with transparent colors to allow the texture of the metal to shine through. Sondra adds color to select works with the use of metal dyes and fused glass.

May also hang this piece outdoors, it will not rust (be cautious of winds).

Sondra Gerber graduated from Colorado Art Institute in 1994 with a design degree.
